Is the oil filter replaced every time a 2024 BMW 3 Series has its oil changed? The oil filter should be replaced with the oil during an oil and filter service for the 2024 BMW 3 Series.

The filter captures debris carried by engine oil and can load over time. Replacing it with the oil helps provide fresh filtration rather than carrying an older, debris-holding filter into another change.

  • Filter matched to the 2.0-liter engine
  • Drain plug gasket or washer renewed where applicable
  • Leak check after the engine runs
What is included in an oil filter replacement on a 2024 BMW 3 Series? The service includes a correctly matched filter, a renewed drain plug gasket or washer where used, and a leak check after operation.

The filter is matched to the engine's specification and replaced alongside the oil. After the engine runs, the filter seal is checked for leaks so the service includes both installation and verification.

  • Engine-specific oil filter
  • New sealing gasket or washer where required
  • Post-service filter-seal inspection
What happens if the oil filter on a 2024 BMW 3 Series is not replaced? If the filter is not replaced, it can load with debris and allow the bypass valve to send unfiltered oil through the engine.

A loaded filter does not necessarily stop oil flow. Instead, the bypass valve opens, so the engine continues receiving oil without the filtration intended to capture debris. The manufacturer's schedule and the vehicle's service history help determine the appropriate maintenance timing.

  • Debris remains held in an older filter
  • The bypass valve may open when the filter loads
  • Oil can circulate without filtration
Does a 2024 BMW 3 Series need a specific oil filter?Yes, the filter is matched to the 2.0-liter, 1,998 cc inline-four engine, and filters are not interchangeable across engines.

The correct filter is selected for the engine actually fitted to the vehicle. This avoids treating filters as universal parts and supports the intended sealing and filtration work during service.

  • 2.0-liter displacement
  • 1,998 cc engine size
  • Inline-four cylinder layout
Can the oil be changed on a 2024 BMW 3 Series without changing the filter?Oil can be changed separately, but an oil and filter service replaces the filter at the same time.

Leaving the existing filter in place means it continues carrying the debris it has collected. The vehicle's maintenance guidance, inspection, and service history determine what work is due, while replacing the filter with the oil maintains fresh filtration.

  • Filter holds debris removed from the oil
  • Loaded filters can open the bypass valve
  • Combined service renews oil and filtration together
