2024 BMW X5 M Brake Pads in Medford, MA

A squeal or scrape may be an early warning that pad material is getting low. Grinding means the friction material is gone and the backing plate is contacting the rotor, so stop driving and book service. An inspection measures all four corners and assesses the complete braking system.

• Squeal or scrape during braking
• Grinding from the brake area
• Longer pedal travel or stopping distance

The inspection covers the rotors, calipers, hardware, and brake fluid condition. Brakes wear as a system, so these components should be assessed together rather than replacing pads while overlooking a damaged or worn part. The measurement helps determine whether service is needed now or at a later visit.

• Pad measurement on all four corners
• Replacement pads matched to the braking system
• Inspection of rotors, calipers, hardware, and fluid

City traffic, towing, hills, and hard stops can shorten pad life. The maintenance schedule does not establish an interval for this model year, so a fixed mileage should not determine replacement. Measuring the remaining material on all four corners shows the condition at the time of service.

• Frequent city stops increase brake use
• Hills and towing can add braking demand
• Inspection measures actual remaining material

Rotors are inspected alongside the pads, calipers, hardware, and brake fluid. If worn pads have reached the backing plate, rotor contact can make additional brake work necessary. Assessing the system together helps prevent a new pad from being paired with a component that could shorten its service life.

• Rotors are inspected during brake service
• Grinding can indicate rotor contact with the backing plate
• Component condition guides the repair decision

Continuing after grinding can allow the backing plate to contact the rotor and turn pad service into more extensive brake work. Squealing, scraping, longer pedal travel, and increased stopping distance also deserve attention. Schedule an inspection so all four corners and related components can be assessed.

• Grinding means friction material is gone
• Longer stopping distance requires prompt attention
• Rotors and calipers need inspection with the pads
